NATURE
Do you want a quiet vacation on Curaçao, preferably in nature? The island is a wonderful vacation destination to get away from it all, even for nature lovers. Here is an overview of beautiful places on Curacao!
Little Curaçao
Klein Curaçao is an uninhabited island south of Curaçao. It is a barren island, with a pearly white beach. Here you can see sea turtles while snorkeling. Furthermore, you will find a 'neglected' lighthouse that dates back to the time when the island was green and horses were kept here. You will also find a shipwreck and several small washed up ships here. Besides these sights, there is also a lot of peace and quiet here!
Watamula
Watamula is located in the middle of a volcanic landscape at the westernmost point of Curaçao. Watamula is a large hole, formed over decades by the rough sea on the coast. When the waves come, the water shoots up like a fountain.

Hofi Pastor
Hofi Pastor is a small orchard that houses Curaçao's oldest tree. This impressive kapok tree is more than 400 years old. The orchard is located next to the big yellow Roman Catholic church in Barber. The Hofje is the perfect spot for bird watching, but you will also encounter iguanas, butterflies and other animals.
Famous Big Cut
Grote Knip is an insanely beautiful beach with a typical Caribbean atmosphere. The beach is pearly white, the ocean is turquoise blue and the coconut palms sway with the warm wind. Not for nothing is Grote Knip the most photographed beach on Curaçao. It is also often called the most beautiful beach in the entire Caribbean archipelago.

Christopher Mountain
On the western side of the island is the impressive Christoffel Park. This park is part of a group of national parks established in 1978. The park is located about a 40-minute drive from Willemstad and you will find, among other things, the highest point on the island, Mount Christoffel. The colorful flora and fauna includes a forest of orchids, tropical birds and lizards. In addition, many sea turtles build their nests here. In summary, a park with many attractions.
Hato Caves
Just north of Willemstad, near Hato International Airport, are the Hato Caves. The caves, carved out of limestone rock over thousands of years, formed when the island rose from the sea. Huge stalactites hang from the ceiling. These caves are among the most visited attractions in Curaçao.

Truck Di Pan
Also on Curaçao they know the food trucks as they have been hugely popular at festivals in the Netherlands for a few years now. On Curaçao they call it a Truki Pan and you can get really great food at most of them. Definitely stop by if you want to end a night out with a little snack. But also keep this in mind as a great alternative to dinner at home in your vacation accommodation.
Curacao Traffic Regulations
In Curaçao many traffic rules apply that also apply in the Netherlands. But as in the Netherlands, not everyone obeys these rules and therefore we have listed a number of exceptions. So you know what you can take into account when driving a rental car on the island.
Priority on through road
First, an important rule of thumb: traffic on the most direct road has the right of way. Traffic from the right has no right of way on Curaçao. There are shark signs in some places, but they are often faded and difficult to see. Coming to an intersection and not sure if you have the right of way? Reduce speed (watch the cars behind you) and watch how the traffic on the road behaves. Even if you are coming from the right and think you definitely have the right of way, that is not how it works here. Traffic flowing through has the right of way. A difficult "rule" to explain, but you get used to it naturally.
The Roundabouts
Everyone will warn you about traffic circles in Curaçao. There are a number of different types in which also here long NOT everyone knows how they work. The really round traffic circles are usually easy: whoever is in the traffic circle has the right of way. The other traffic circles really aren't. These traffic circles are more like an overpass. Again, the general rule is: the most straight ahead road has the right of way. Do not take priority if you are not sure, because there is a lot of driving on traffic circles.

You must not use your phone while driving a car.
Details
When it rains, roads become particularly slippery in Curaçao. This has to do with the amount of oil on the road surface. When the road surface gets wet, the oil is extra slippery. Drivers are therefore advised to moderate their speed during rain or a wet road surface and keep enough distance from the car in front, because their braking distance is considerably longer than normal.
Curacao Road Service
In the unlikely event that you get into an accident on Curaçao, it is good to know what the procedure is. In case of a traffic accident, usually not the police, but the Curaçao Road Service will come. They can be reached 24 hours a day at telephone number 199 (or 5999/747-1333). They will send someone as soon as possible to make a damage report. If you need an ambulance, call 912. By the way, the general emergency number on Curaçao is 911. But hopefully you will never have to use these numbers and you will soon be driving around beautiful Curaçao carefree! Finally, many cars on Curaçao have defects, such as broken lights or bumpers that drag on the road. Keep your distance and check your mirrors regularly.
